Anathi's passion for storytelling began in a community drama group, where he first tasted acting and directing through improvisation. This early experience ignited his love for the craft, leading him to spend three years with a performing arts company, gaining valuable skills in both acting and technical roles.
Determined to excel in filmmaking, Anathi enrolled at City Varsity in 2013, focusing on Cinematography. His drive and commitment set him apart, and he graduated as the Best Director of Photography in his class. Eager to deepen his knowledge, he gained industry experience in the lighting department, mastering the use of various lights and becoming one of the first in South Africa trained in LED technology.
Anathi is now one of only four Dimmer Operators in the South African film industry, contributing to major international projects with renowned companies like BBC Studios, HBO, and Film Afrika. His journey as a Spark, LED Technician, and Dimmer Operator has honed his eye for detail and storytelling. Anathi’s dedication and experience equip him to do justice to the stories he brings to life as a cinematographer.
