The courageous Sivenkosi Hope Runeli was born in Port Elizbeth, raised in a small town namely;
Uitenhage. Her passionate goes back to when she embarked on a journey in search of gold
(greener pastures) at the age of 18-years-old.
In 2011, she moved to Cape Town to study journalism at Varsity college. Although the Journalism
studies were interesting, and genuinely suited her talkative and curious nature. Most importantly;
her passion to overcome social development issues in black communities, much like where she
comes from with less resources. During her journalism studies, she mainly excelled in photojournalism, this was when her mentor introduced her to filmmaking studies. Recognizing her raw
talent and ability to visualize incredible picture concepts.
In the year 2013 she was one of over 50 applicants to be successfully accepted for a
Scholarship to study Film and TV production studies at Big fish school of digital filmmaking.
She comes with a winner perceptive and energy in everything she does and on every project.
She was awarded Best Director at the film school institution, year in- year out she produced
films that were heart felt and visually exceptional. A Documentary she Directed during early 2014,
was award for Best documentary film at the Cape Winelands International Film, competing
amongst students from UCT,AFDA and City Varsity to mention a few.
In 2016, Sivenkosi officially joined the film industry through the FILM ACADEMY; marking ‘Maze Runner- Death Cure’ as first
international film to work on as an Assistant Director trainee. Since, she has grown into strongly known third Assistant Director
and rising floor runner second-second assistant Director. By end of 2022, Sivenkosi got the opportunity to work as a junior first
Assistant Director, mentored by Jacqui JoJo (Black woman in Film-powerhouse 2nd AD & 1st AD),this has since opened doors
for her working as a 1st AD on commercial shoots around Cape Town.
Sivenkosi Runeli as a brand stands for: Prosperity, encouragement, unity and breaking of generational cursus. She continues
to use her voice in the art of entertainment and motion picture. The pursuit to polish her craft and career is always going to be
based on fulfilling the dream of building an empire of powerful women and strong men around her, who dares to dream
regardless of where they come from or their upbringing.
Sivenkosi continues to strive and evolve as passionate African filmmaker!
