John-Otto Phike is a Rhodes University graduate, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Drama and Psychology, and a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Drama. He values work environments that advocate for collaboration, leadership empowerment and innovation. He boasts a few years of experience in various theater, film and TV departments, as a background crew and production.
His experience spans both locally and internationally by working with productions from South Africa, Germany and the US within the TV and Film. These productions include King Shaka (CBS), Thabo: The Rhino Adventure (Desert Flower Filmproduktion), The Wife (Showmax), Reyka (MNET), Shuga Down South (MTV Base) and Yoh! Christmas (Netflix South Africa), to name a few. His extensive background in various productions he observed many responsibilities such as, production scheduling, client liaison, production liaison, network liaison, assisting producers and directors with shortlisting and casting, and standing in for the producers in meetings. The skills learnt from these experiences involve production coordination and management, art and wardrobe sourcing, microsoft office (word, excel, outlook), email management, social media management, agent communication, production grid/plan tracking, production departments communications.
Additionally, his experience involves writing copy & scripts for theater & advertising agencies. He has observed responsibilities such as supervising interviews and conducting interviews with actors for articles, supervising article research, edit social media and website copy; including articles, conceptualizing emails, social media and article copy, conducting interviews for feature and profile articles, conducting research on actor’s backgrounds for biographical purposes, producing feature and profile article for web-magazine usage.
Having worked in various spheres of production & content coordination, in fast paced environments, I believe I am prepared and skilled to navigate systems, organizational culture and language, environmental pace and overall ethics that are already established in the company. In the job, I am prepared to participate as a team member and leader, innovator and overall support to make the process run smoother.
